Picasso set to open November 6!

A finely tuned Picasso at the Lapin Agile opens on November 6, 2015 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts Black Box Theater by special arrangement with Samuel L. French Inc. Presented by the Wellesley Players

So, Einstein and Picasso walk into a bar…Written by comic genius Steve Martin, Picasso at the Lapin Agile is set in the famous real life café “Le Lapin Agile” (The Nimble Rabbit) in Paris in 1904. Award winning Director Laura Espy and Assistant Director Mark Estano lead the talented Wellesley Players cast as they take the audience on a journey following a mythical, magical meeting of two geniuses on the cusp of their fame. We meet Pablo Picasso (played by Cristhian Mancinas Garcia), right before he sets the art world afire with cubism, and Albert Einstein (Jason Rutledge) right before he transforms physics with his theory of relativity.

In addition to the two historical figures, the play is also populated with an amusingly incontinent barfly Gaston (Harvey Greenberg), a gullible yet lovable bartender Freddy (Austin Nowak), a wise waitress Germaine (Allison Russell) and a few surprise characters played by Cara Guappone, Chris Deter, Bryan Moyer and Paul DeCamp that trounce in and out of the Lapin Agile.      Through the lens of Steve Martin’s brilliant, absurdist comedy, sexuality and artistry this play examines the dawning of the 20th century. Martin writes, “This is the night the earth fell quiet and listened to a conversation.” We invite you to join us in this absurdly funny conversation.

Performances will be held at the Black Box Theatre at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown, MA on November 6 & 7, 13 & 14 at 8:00 p.m. and November 8 &15 at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 and available at www.wellesleyplayers.club  Discounts available for seniors, students, youth and groups. First come first served seating. Photoflash and strobe light may be used during the show. There will be no intermission.
