An EMACT FIRST

EMACT is excited to announce the First Ever EMACT Design Competition to take place during the EMACT Festival, June 27 and 28.

Showcase your great technical production designs without having to participate in Festival This is a chance for your technical artists to claim the spotlight

Design Categories: Scenic, Costume, Make-up/Hair, Lighting, Sound, Special Effects/Technical Design, Graphics/Promotional Media

Deadline for Entry:

Monday, May 26, 2014 Entries  will be evaluated by two special adjudicators: Molly Trainer, a professional costumer, and Ron DeMarco, Properties Director/Asst. Technical Director for Emerson College Department of Performing Arts.

The Wellesley Players are EMACT members which means ANY of our designers in any of these categories may exhibit old or new designs from previous or current productions.

Competition Guidelines and the Entry Form are available on the EMACT website. Please review the Competition Guidelines carefully before submitting your entry. General Guidelines are listed below. Visit the EMACT website: www.emact.org for the application. Guidelines are listed below.

  1. Guidelines: Download the Competition Guidelines from the EMACT web site and review them carefully.
  2. Entry Form: The Entry Form for all entries must be submitted by email by May 26, 2014.
  3. Entry Fee: First entry from a group is $25.00. All additional entries are $15.00 each.
  4. Qualifications: Each entry must have been designed for an EMACT member theatre production staged between July 2013 and May 2014. Each entry should represent a single aspect of a single production except in the case of promotional media, which may represent a single season. An entry may include  multiple pieces, i.e., multiple costume designs for a show or multiple views of a show’s set or lighting.
  5. Display Options: Entries for table top display may occupy a space of 30″ x 36.” Free standing floor displays, such as costumes on mannequins or dress forms, may occupy a foot print of up to 40″ x 40.” Entries for free standing floor display must have their own means of display. Indicate which display method you will be using on the entry form.
  6. Set Up: Entries are to be set up Saturday, June 28, 2013 from Noon to 3 pm. It is the responsibility of the entrant to transport the entry to the exhibit site.  EMACT will provide table space and access to AC power, as requested on entry form.

It is the responsibility of the entrant to provide anything else needed for the effective presentation of the design (i.e., mannequins or models, video/audio playback devices, vertical riser, etc.).

  1. Audio/Video: Any audio or video playback may NOT interfere with another display. Headphones for the playback device are strongly encouraged.
  2. Strike: All entries must be struck between 4-5:30 PM, June 29, 2014. Provision for returning entries to the designer must be made in advance. Entries left without  arrangements for return will be considered abandoned and discarded.

Awards: Awards will be given at the discretion of the Adjudicators, based on concept, creativity, originality, effectiveness, and execution. Certificates will be presented to the winners at the Awards Ceremony at the end of the Festival.
