Cast Announcement for A…My Name Is Alice

A… My Name is Alice is a musical revue conceived by Joan Micklin Silver and Julianne Boyd. Frank Rich reviewing for The New York Times, calling the revue “delightful”, wrote: “Many of the songs are theater songs in the best sense: The music and lyrics are so sophisticated that they can carry the weight of one-act plays.”

A song called Friends recounts the entire history of a friendship that sustains two women from high school through marriage and old age; another, titled Sisters, provides a similar account of two women whose lifelong sibling rivalry at last reaches a bittersweet resolution in a lonely apartment in Queens.  Directed by Celia Couture with Musical Direction by Art Finstein, who teamed up for the Wellesley Player’s production of Fiddler On the Roof, are happy to be collaborating for this production.  Fiddler garnered 10 DASH nominations when it was presented in our 2010-2011 season.   A…My Name is Alice will be performed at the Black Box Theatre at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, Watertown, MA.  The Players have been in residence at the Arsenal Center for four years and have established a great following and strong partnership with the Arsenal Center staff.

We are thrilled to announce the cast who will bring A…My Name is Alice to the stage: Lara Simpson, Jen Bubriski, Jen Shotkin, Sun Mee Kasper, Regine Vital, Kathy Dalton, Kelly Murphy, (Dance Captain), Melissa Bisso and David Kimmelman (who will be playing all the male roles.) Each of these performers are multi-award winning and nominated actors for the DASH and EMACT Festival Programs.  Some have also earned nominations from the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE).  The show features each of these talented actors in solos, duets and monologues.  The authors use these moments as a bridge to tell the story of all women, their unique relationships to each other and to the men in their lives.  Multi-talented David Kimmelman will play each of the male roles in the production.  The Players are pleased to welcome David back who was last seen on our musical stage as Tevye in Fiddler On the Roof.  David also held leading roles in the Players’ productions of in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.

Each actress plays 4-5 characters in the production.    The music, written by various artists is both eclectic and diverse in style.  The director is also modernizing the show by updating references in the score and the dialogue to make it a bit more contemporary for our 2014 audiences.  “The show is not performed that often in Massachusetts and we are thrilled to have received the rights to this very popular show.  This is the first of three versions of a musical trilogy which was first performed in 1984, said director, Celia Couture, I am happy to be working with such a talented team of actors and artists.”

Performance Dates are:  November 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, and 16.  Please keep checking back as we finalize additional matinee performances on Thursday or Saturday during the second weekend of the run.  This is also a perfect show for groups to enjoy a wonderful night of theatre.  If interested, please contact our Marketing Liaison: Don Baillargeron at:  dbaillar@verizon.net.
