President's Letter

President’s Letter

September 2018

Dear Wellesley Players,

As many of you know the Wellesley Players have been performing in Watertown, rehearsing in Needham, storing and building in Allston and pining for the day when we can once again perform in the town where our group originated.  We decided to take a few years off from performing as mounting a production was becoming increasingly cost prohibitive.  In the interim, we continue to have social events and focus on our work with the Wellesley Arts Alliance to try to bring about the building of some kind of an Arts Space in the town of Wellesley.  The Wellesley Arts Alliance is comprised of non-profit visual and performing arts groups in the town of Wellesley and includes the Wellesley Players, the Wellesley Choral Society, the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, the Wellesley Theater Project and a number of visual arts groups from our community.

The town of Wellesley accepted a number of RFPs in the spring for the development of town property in the Tailby and Hollis St lots adjacent to the railroad tracks in Wellesley Square.  One of the developers, Trinity Financial, reached out to the Wellesley Arts Alliance and is incorporating a Black Box Theater into their proposal.  A number of Wellesley Players have met with folks from Trinity Financial and have been most impressed with their plan and their willingness to work collaboratively with members of our community.  As the town of Wellesley Selectman and Planning Board meet and discuss the four top proposals, I highly encourage all members of our theater community to check out Trinity Financial’s Proposal for Wellesley Square and voice your support for this project.

We will continue to update our membership as things unfold.

Warmly,

Darlene Howland
